Dream Dictionary
A dream dictionary is a reference that explains what recurring symbols in dreams have traditionally been understood to mean. Each entry covers one symbol, its common interpretations, and the cultural context those readings come from.
What separates this dictionary from most is that it does not present a single meaning per symbol. Dream interpretation has never had one authority. Psychoanalytic readings, folk traditions, and religious interpretive literature developed independently, frequently disagree, and are usually blended together online without anyone saying where a given reading came from. Every entry here names its sources and says plainly where they diverge.
The second difference is what we do with details. Most lookups return a meaning for the symbol alone — «snake», «water», «falling». In practice the symbol is rarely the part that decides the reading. Water is interpreted through its clarity and movement, not through being water. A dog is read through how it behaved, not through being a dog. Each entry sets out which details actually change the interpretation, so the answer to «what does it mean» depends on what you remember rather than on the noun alone.
We also state where readings are not supported. A number of interpretations that circulate widely — that teeth falling out predicts a death, that dreaming of someone dying is a warning about that person — have very little standing in the traditions they claim to come from. Saying so is more useful than repeating them, particularly for the dreams people arrive here worried about.
